Community Diaries: Arkansas Newspapering, 1819-2002 is the most extensive history of the Arkansas newspaper industry ever written, beginning with the establishment of the oldest newspaper west of the Mississippi  and spanning more than 180 years to the early days of the Third Millennium. The hardbound, 416-page is generously illustrated with historic photographs and vintage editorial cartoons. It was written by Michael B. Dougan, professor of history at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, and author of two other books, Confederate Arkansas (1976) and Arkansas Odyssey (1994).
